Renaissance Research Assignment

Enduring Understanding(s):  The study of the continuum of human civilization reveals the ideals, beliefs, values, and institutions of its people.

Essential Question:  What do the people of the Renaissance reveal about the ideas, beliefs and values of the time period?

The Task:  Choose three people from the Renaissance (listed below) and research their “claim to fame”, what they were well known for and write a summary about each one.  Your research should elaborate on the work that the individual did during the Renaissance by providing examples and explanations of their projects.  You may include biographical information if it is relevant to the individual’s work.

Your summary for each one should be at least 3 paragraphs.

Include a picture of either the work or the person.

Analysis:  After you have researched information about the Renaissance person, write a 3-5 sentence summary of what that person’s contribution reveals about the ideas or the beliefs or the values of the time period. 

Writers:  Shakespeare, Machiavelli, Petrarch, Erasmus, Thomas More

Inventors:  Leonardo da Vinci, Johannes Guttenberg, Filippo Brunelleschi (mechanical clock,),

Scientists:  Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus

Explorers:  Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci, Vasco Nunez Balboa, Hernan Cortez

Artists:  Michelangelo, Raphael, Donatello, Titian, other??

Other: Lorenzo de Medici, Filippo Brunelleschi (architect/engineer)

You should use at least 3 resources, and include a reference page.

It must be printed out and turned in to the pass in box.

You will have 2 half days in the library and one full day.
